I want to thank Mark and Sheila, again. Ray and I enjoyed every minute of your visit to the Big Island SO MUCH! We now know more members of the Nelson Ohana here on the island for future fun, and such treasured, rare times with all who traveled. Too many special moments to single out. Having the band and fans to the house was WAY TOOOOO FUN! I recall the moment David Gans stepped onto the porch and we were both overjoyed to see each other. I recall David Nelson afixed to a bard stool enjoying some merlot, and kidding about saran-wrap tearing skill, and Pete and Barry lounging on the upstairs lanai amidist sunlit swaying palms, and Mook pretending someone stole his clothes, and Joe examining the picture wall of rock...etc, etc. Part One...continue above.

I think there are some songs missing from that list. I know that DNB did "In The Pines" with Laurie and Tom. I think there are some other omissions as well in the DNB and BCBC sets. Maybe I'm mistaken... coulda been the rum? I don't think I hallucinated In The Pines though. If so, it was one sweet hallucination! Carry on..

Well, its later than I thought... I’ve been thinking of a medley, “Hand Jive” and a “Fade Way”... Whaddya think? Joe, Pete? You’d have to carry all the changes... But I see some intersections between the verses, with the rhythm, percussion and bass essentially similar..., I know, I play nothing but this keyboard and my mouth. Maybe it’s been done before, but after I said goodnight to Leon Russell, the other night by the palms, I started hearing this medley... And it seemed the two songs jived... Hmmm... I’m gonna tell ya how its gonna be! Your gonna give your love to me,,,,,, Bumpa padadadada Hand jive, hand jive, do that crazy hand jive...! Extrapolate, lots of bass and drums... You could go back and forth at will... Aloha! Gregg Who posts as Dallas112263, but I guess here, I’m just me...

Everybody says "Jerry said,..." Hell, I'm gonna write a song called "Jerry Said" and include all the things folks said he said, in fact, that will be the refrain... Anyway... annnywayyy...., Jerry said... he said the music would last ... It did and will, thanks to its unique troubadours… Of which we are in the presence, in aloha. Aloha! Gregg Who posts as Dallas112263, but I guess here, I’m just me...

Wow, what I wanna say will not fit on these pages, In fact i've been so informed by the server... Hmmm... Inaptly named these severs... later I’ll write, and do, more... But in short, this experience has only confirmed what I think I already knew... We are a culture, American, oh yes, but global...And in this is held, literally, the hope for our world, a lifestyle for people that walks gently on the land and gives back as much, or more, than it takes. Just want to say that this was a great leg of the tour. So many people from the family and group came to say, "hi". The band was so tight, it was amazing. we do NOT get this caliber of music in the islands. I heard David Gans call-in to "Tales From the Golden Road" on SIRIUS satellie radio (we get it on DISH network here) and he called DNB one of the best jam bands IN THE WORLD! We HAVE to agree. Anyway, like Barb ~ Ripple, I cannot get to the Big Island shows. I have all 3 Maui shows seeding at bt.etree.org. Enjoy - and PLEASE - somebody - record & post the shows on your island. I agree - last night was a fun time, indeed. Barb - hope you enjoy the recording. I appreciate your appreciation -) Also glad that I had a chance to meet David Gans face to face, finally. After my commercial radio career back in Oregon, I did some volunteer shifts at KRVM and worked with David to get his show played on the Eugene airwaves. He bent over backwards to help us at that time. I also recorded his show at Stella's and hope to get that up and seeding soon(in addition to the DNB). I won't be able to make tonight at the Hard Rock (parking is a bitch up there and driving the Pali at night is risking your life) but plan to make it tomorrow at Paia. Gotta watch the Colts first (my brother in law is a scout for them). From what we recall at the New Year's show at the Cannery - the announcement said the opening act tomorrow is going to be Brown Chicken, Brown Cow. I had not heard them or OF them until the Cannery show but they are good. Aloha from Maui, nassau73

can't do the DNB Hawaii shows myself, unfortunately, but I read enviously of great airfares in the Hawaii section at triple-w farecompare dot com backslash dealfinder backslash hawaii. don't mean to sound like a shill, but I've used farecompare before and it's a great, free(!!!) consumer empowerment tool with no hidden agendas or ulterior motives, as site operator and airfare expert Rick Seaney (who's also on twitter) posts deals up to 6 hours ahead of other travel sites like Travelocity, Expedia, etc., and you don't have to be a travel agent to avail yourself of them...the site usefully offers low-fare e-mail alerts in which you can program preferred itineraries from your home airport that if you check your mail regularly allows you to receive them in sufficient time to grab the deals. check it out..

Hi, Folks! Mizshely and I went to Joe Kohn's memorial at his home in San Rafael yesterday, and it was simply packed with people. There was a line out the front door of people waiting to get in, so we actually went 'round the back. It was wonderful to see you, Miss Cellophane Flowers! Wonderful to hear everyone speak about Joe. I let everyone know there were many people in the Nelson Family who were thinking of and missing Joe. Mizshely told everyone about Joe being the first DNB fan and Miss Cellophane recalled some lovely anecdotes and brought some cds Joe'd burned for her. We all ended up singing "Ripple" in Joe's honor (his favorite song). Love to you all, and have a wonderful time in Hawai'i with Eth and Ray!

Funny story of a time with Joe. I had gotten this Dylan dvd and watched with Joe, Stage Diving. Fans start jumping on the stage and diving off as Bob is performing. Eventually they start approaching Bob with hand shakes, hugs and kisses. Some girls stick around and dance. Bob continues the with the show. we laughed and laughed as we watched it unfold. Look it up on yooutube, 11-12-96 Dubuque Ia and enjoy a laugh with Joe.

Joe was always there to argue for patient's rights. My wife has a card, and Joe always gave me the best tips on cultivation. He was like a mentor. I shall miss his advice. Joseph Kohn - After waging a courageous fight vs. the effects of lung cancer Joe at 62 years of age passed away on January 5th at home in San Rafael with loving family members at his side. Burial was held at Mt. Tam Cemetery in a beautiful mountain setting Joe was the loving brother of sister Jane Kos, children Adrienne and Alex (Melissa ) and brother Stephen (Susan), children Lori (CLIFF) Lyon, Jeffrey (Valarie,) Michael (Gail), plus many grand nieces and nephews. Friends and colleagues are invited to a gathering at Joe's home in San Rafael on Saturday from 1-4 PM. Call 650-375-8145. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joe's memory to the charity or organization of your choice. Whenever you are out hiking in the woods or at the shore, think of Joe and his love of nature and wildflowers. snipped from the January 8 SF Chronicle.

Not to argue, sweetheart, but my love Garry gave Miss Geraldine to Joe after Jerry died. You probably know Garry. In any case, he was a love of his life, sure proud of her he was. "She'll kick your ass" he always said. Sure enough. Too soon gone, and he's talking to Marmaduke somewhere now.

I'm just rocking out with the video I shot of DNB from the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival, from 101505, in honor of my buddy Joe. And enjoying some herbal relief. It's not Geraldine, but what you gonna do? If anyone has alternate audio of this show, I'd love to sych it up and re-release for free, in honor of my friend.

Joe was the one that first turned my on to DNB. It was his "little secret". He did so much in recent years for conservation here in Marin that he became known around the civic center as that "damn guy from the plant society". He didn't back down, ever. He always had an assortment of protest signs by his front door, just in case. We'll miss you brother.

Some of the people over on RMGD want to plan a wildflower walk to honor Joe's memory... probably this spring sometime... up Mt. Tam. I would SO be up for that! I cannot organize anything myself right now but please, keep me in the loop if you hear anything and I will be happy and honored to participate. Joe was very, very special. I'd like to see the DNB dedicate a song or two, or even a show, to Joe's memory. He was there when most of you were not. Not a put down of anyone who came later, just the truth.

Just checked Hawaiian and that airfare is true but can't say the same for Alaska and Delta. If you check their websites the fares are way higher than posted below my post and they route you thru either Seattle [Alaska] or Salt lake City [Delta}. Stick with Hawaiian. If you are going to both islands Hawaiian has the best deals for multi city with connections between Maui and Big Island. Aloha

Sad to hear the news of Joe's passing. We have many fond memories of Joe. Joe visited us at our house in El Sobrante was a party we were having prior to the "Summer of Love" show in GGP a few years ago. I remember him eating a chocolate tart I'd made and him being so taken by how good it was. Joe had a way of digging something in a genuine way. We ran into Joe at a Jefferson Starship show in larkspur 2 years ago and he expressed that same Joe joy after hearing JS play their special brand of music. Finally we're glad to have known Joe and shared music with him. He will be with us in Hawai'i. Go ride the music Joe! ALOHA

I tried to find the Pt Reyes and Mt Tam photos on Moonalice's facebook page under 'Just Fans' but didn't see them. Funny, on Christmas we walked out to Bass Lake with friends and the kids, who took a swim (brr), saw coyote, rabbits, red tail hawks, and a few blooming monkey flowers. The 25th was an exceptionally gorgeous, still day, the Farallones clear in the distance. Must've been a nice view from an airplane.

i'd love two days in paia but the reality is, going outside isn't cheap and in paia, haiku area rain is a possibility. one rainy show rough, two rainy shows and disaster. I cant afford low attendance at any of the shows. we just turn the space into our environment. but part of it is having a venue that understands that. and Stellas does and tries to accommodate us. plus it's under the Radar for freaking and close to the hotels for Visitors. there are few as is and on Island fewer. we've done weirder. Dead across from a gun show in Salt Lake city. The L.A forum, anytime, Irvine with Goosesteppers, i could go on, Mele Kalikimaka everyone.

Thank you Maggi and Kevin for convincing DNB to come to Point Arena--I hope DNB will return soon for another joyfully psychedelically uplifting set of songs with an audience who really appreciates your music, your spirit and you. Thanks again for the soulful, memorable music (Traffic's Rainmaker! Morrison's Into the Mystic! Dylan's Wicked Messenger! NRPS Kick in the Head! Elvis' Blue Christmas! and so many more) the mindblowing joyfulness, and sending much love to you all.

Huge thanks to the boys, Timmy & Chuck and all my friends & family who keep making this experience get better and better each time we venture out! The new room at Humbrews sounds absolutely fabulous. The music played the band the whole run, but especially the second set in Pt. Arena. Beth turned to me and said Rainmaker was the most beautiful thing she had ever heard and the Cut n' Run was probably the best version of that song I ever heard. After driving for what seemed like an eternity into the dark fog, the Mystic was mind blowing and then it felt like Jerry had joined us with a band of angels during Kick in the Head. 2009 was an amazing year for the band with lots more shows than in many years past. Here's hoping and wishing that we build on this momentum and take it to new levels in 2010! Happy holidays everyone. Peace, love and lots of Aloooohhhhaaa...

Check Wikopedia....... "Run Rudolph Run" (sometimes referred to as "Run Run Rudolph"[1]) is a Christmas song popularized by Chuck Berry and written by Johnny Marks and Marvin Brodie and published by St. Nicholas Music (ASCAP). The song was first recorded by Berry in 1958 and released as Chess Records 1714. It hit number 69 in the Billboard Hot 100.

There will always be talkers. A gentle reminder usually does the trick. It's the hootin and hollerin that's over the top lately. This is a newer fan because you don't hear it in recordings from a couple years back. WHY must you hoot REPEATEDLY throughout and in between each and every song?!?!? It is as if you'd rather hear yourself than the music. You know who you are. PLEASE give it a rest already!

Two great shows this weekend No yappers at Humbrews I think it's just a diiferent crowd than comes to Nelson show. They come to hear the old songs and relive old times. Nelson Fans Look to the future and Listen to what happening on syage NOW. The Humbrews crowd this time wad biggest of the three recent shows and there was no noise issues. and Timmy had the room sounding great. and again If someone is talking to loud you can politely ask them to be quiter. Most people respond in the manner they are experiencing from the other person. just curious tom and Skyspirit did u guys go to the Riders board and complain about the noise cause that would be the appropriate place since it was a NRPS crowd not a DNB crowd. Our fans are great and I love seeing all the new smiling faces on board. i love meeting the new folks and get there impression of the Band. Isn't that right Rick K.?!

Dear Band and Fellow Fans We have been fans for eons, now in our 50s of both David Nelson and NRPS, I must say after seeing this posting "Sounddawgy will have the knobs turned to 11 so everybody's gonna have to listen up. Quit yer yappin and everybody get down tonight!" I can see that we're not alone in our disgust at the talking at your shows both NRPS and David Nelson not to mention the fighting in the NorthBay. If you want people to come back to shows, you need to at least turn up the volume to drown out the b.s. and if its HumBrews making you set it at those levels then that's the problem and there are still other venues, hopefully you can still at leastthe RedFox, we know 6 Rivers is probably and sadly a lost cause. Bygonez. Humboldt Hoedown is ON!, there's no way after not being able thear NRPS that we were going to spend another $50 only to leave it at the door.

This is hopefully the last word on that little incident in Mill Valley. What went down between me and David involved something he had said about a mutual friend of ours and he had really pissed me off. It has been resolved and all is well between me and David. It was somebody on this board who stirred up shit by bringing this up. You people have NO IDEA and it is not up to me to clue you in. And for the record, I was at that gig about 10 minutes, en route home from somewhere else and stopped by to say hello to Mr. Molo.

a "nose Goblin" is what Ren's cousin Sven calls his bugers. I had hoped you knew that and would think it was funny Mizsheley (since you brought up Ren and Stimpy). I didn't blame anything on Nelson or anybody else. Geez I might not spell well but at least I can read. Stop yelling at me, I'm leaving already, before someone calls homeland security on me.

just to clear things up, the David Nelson Band has done me no wrong. The "heart ache and dissappointment that surrounds the band" Met girl and married girl with just wedding vows and my promise of a proper wedding to follow. She chose the DNB as the source of that proper wedding and later added the NRPS to the acceptable list. I failed to save the money to make it happen. Lost girl. Certain songs cause nostalgia. I'm here for the new songs. (Former Fans is someone else)

To the former fans by all appearances it seems best that you do mosey along and find a new "family" i.e. scene. The wagon train is moving out, game faces wired on, no time or patience for sensitive whiners or ambivalent stragglers or those in crisis. As R and L Thompson sang, "No use crying in a room full of memories You never will find yesterday." Hang in there, the present awaits. As ET writes, 'God, the formless and unmanifested, shines through the opening left by the dissolving form'.

Mia, I have only had experience with two graphic novels Artie Spiegelman's MAUS which I studied in a college course a few years back (and I highly recommend to EVERYONE) and of course, WATCHMEN - the film of which was released last spring and I missed thanks to this illness and being in the hospital but one of the characters, the owl guy who looks like Batman, was played by my friend, Patrick Wilson. I like graphic novels but I am really better with using words... what kind of a story would we be telling? My so called life? Nobody has had a weirder one than I have, that is certain. But I am not sure that is a story worth telling. However, please feel free to send a graphic letter to House of Blues in LA requesting the New Riders and Jemimah Puddleduck, or DNB and JP. THAT might get their attention!

I still believe that Hawaiian airlines has the best deal for those wishing to do both islands while leaving out of oakland. True the RT from sfo to maui might seem like a good price, you still have to get to the other island. United charges you a stiff price one way, so if you RT from either sac. or SF you will pay for 2 inter island trips. Hope I've made this clear. Right now Hawaiian multi city is $576 includes inter island and all taxes. Aloha

Severed Heart Brigade bob B? You really gotta be kidding me! You and others whiners sure post lots here for someone claiming to be so disenchanted. And by exactly WHAT? Spell it out – and DON’T even bother to tell me about rude talkers or dancers. They are at EVERY show no matter who’s playing. The DNB crowd is easily the most friendly easy going old school family-like. Name me one band that gives you a better band-audience all around family feeling. They even play special non-club places like the barn for them and their fans to be more comfortable. Tell me what did THE DNB ever do to you to earn your disdain? Attract new fans? Gimme a break. I sure hope they never read this board. I wouldn’t blame them for reading all this petty BS and fold up there tent and saying why even bother the heck with it all.

Have been to all the DNB shows in HI and some in CS.HI 08 shows were by far the best in music and ohana. 09 family feel was disjointed and the young 20's 30's crowd unfortunately made for a private party feel that we were not invited to.If we all make an effort to realize folks are paying money to see the band not twirly girls we might be back to good spirits. Former Fans, I think I can relate to your pain. There is some heart ache and disappointment that surrounds the DNB for me too,(a member of the Sevred Heart Brigade if you will), it comes hand in hand with astronomical high hopes and dreams. Don't give up just yet, the story is far from told. And anyone who hasn't met Mizsheley in person, don't be fooled. She is infact cute, girlish, giggly and if she looks a day over 45 than I am a monkeys uncle. Old and crotchedy my ass. SHE should be in Hollywood with that act. Hi Anthony!!! I do remember you shaking it up front, something I never had a problem with except when you shook it in front of ME at the sweetwater and I swatted you. Glad you had a good time at Simon Legrees. Believe it or not, certain members of the NRPS clan had no idea who he was and I, of course, took it a step outside of Uncle Tom's Cabin and launched in to "Small House of Uncle Thomas" from "The King and I" - you know, "Ladies and gentlemen, I put before you King Simon of LEGREE..." Poor Tuptim... and poor Toast - I sure bet he was sorry he asked ME about that!

When my ex and I found The DNB everyone was more then willin' to let us shake it up front or share some love with us out back... thanks again. things ebb and flow... I commented here a few years ago on our crew playing some high profile gigs with Lesh, Kimock etc would help expand the club, well... I believe there is room for all. Whatever it takes to keep David and everyone on the road is going to be alright. Oh the larger crowds help out club owners so they will want us back. It is all part of the Endless tour. Let me just change the subject. Y'all are invited over to my facebook page where I have posted my latest jib jab video of "A Christmas Carol" starring David Nelson as Scrooge, Brad Stiles as Bob Cratchit, myself as Mrs. Cratchit, my son at age 3 as Tiny Tim and Michael Falzarano as the ghost of christmas future. Me and facebook, scary. Me and Jib Jab, now THERE is a problem - my previous videos of Nelson square dancing with Lawrence Ferlinghetti were highly acclaimed by the New Riders and Mr. David who really liked the way I made him dance.

I'm not wishing to be a trask master on this identity of the poster. I simply asked the "Former Fans" for their name in an attempt to start a constructive discussions concerning the issues they brought up. They made vague charges about a group of didicated fans and I felt we might somehow clear this matter up to the benefit of all concerned. I guess that makes me a socialist.

Looking back at some posts from a few weeks ago, it appears those with complaints did use their given names, but received no public reply to their concerns. Maybe in the absence of transparency and dialog people become vague and reactive. Two-thirds of the last 25 or so posts here were made anonymously, mostly playfully so. Insistence on using real names on an electronic bb seems expressive of a slavish adherence to illusive egoic identity and antiquated verbal behavior, not to mention a bit prim. Lighten up, Deep breath, All together Now....

And I always use my name when posting, I am not so chicken shit as to post inflammatory remarks under pseudonymns or noms de computer. Whoever is doing that is really sick and should stop or refrain from posting. The scene at DNB shows now is better than ever. Many more fans, and there's a lot of love in the room. If you can't feel that, I suspect you're stuck in your own hell. Not to mention the music is way better than ever. Oh sure, there are a few newcomers to the scene that don't know how to act at first, but they learn when shown enough love. Here's to lots more DNB shows! We LOVE this family! Take us to Hawaii Dave!

This band is the best thing going and to deprive yourselves because of some people who have made you feel unwelcomed bothers me. Have you tried to talk to and work out this problem with these people? Former Fan, I understand nostalgia and I miss Bill Laymon, but how can you miss David, I don't think he's ever been more here than now. As for the Family, for the most part I agree with you. Its usually a bunch of drunk punks who don't really know anything about the scene. Its not that the DNB needs them, but God knows they need the DNB. So I try to look at it as a charity outreach program. wish that there was another band good enough to do the job so the DNB and New Riders could remain a secret insider thing, but there is not.

Hey Skyspirit, if it makes you feel any better, last night at my kid's middle school band performance they played a bunch of great songs, incl. Night on Bald Mountain, a Danny Elfman composition, and The Final Countdown, among other rockin tunes, most of which were diminished by the rude crowd, bunch of talkers who wouldn't be quiet during the conductor's spiels or the music. AND they were cracking their gum. Rudeness, i.e. lack of presence, abounds. Too bad for them, because those cats laid down some raging solos.

These arguements over DNB vs. NRPS are ridiculous. David is the fearless leader. David likes both bands period. He can play NRPS or GD songs in DNB if he sees fit and his buddies McDuke, Torbert & Garcia are most likely happy to see the music living on thru David. If he wants to bring DNB tunes to NRPS it is also his perogative. It makes me happy everyday Nelson has a guitar in his hands & a mic stand in his face. He is the MAN now, Hunter knows it and It is all GOOD! We don't write the setlists, but we are lucky enough to listen to and celebrate the kickass catalouge that continues to grow & is brought to life by David & whatever bandmates he chooses to be with. Here's to the music continuing to play whatever band David is on stage with.

Garden of Eden is a New Riders song - I know DNB sometimes do it but really, they shouldn't. It is NOT the vocals in Garden of Eden that get you, it is the lyrics. They were true 40 years ago when Marmaduke wrote them and they are sadly, even more true today. God, I miss "the little freak" - will always love John. And Buddy and David too, of course.

Well, people do like to say and disagree around here. I'm just sayin in general, sit-down venues are quiet and bars are loud. Be interesting to compare the chatter at the upcoming DNB Humbrews gig to the NRPS crowd dBs. Shushhing people in a bar is an exercise in futility based on false expectations leading to disappointment. I went to hear my friends play at the Freight recently and it's a staid crowd, but it's a listening venue, no booze, no smoke inside, good acoustics = nice. DNB and-or NRPS could play more of those venues once in awhile. I was more or less commiserating with Skyspirit, though I find STFU to be the ugliest acronym ever and feel its use is best avoided. Be that as it may, cream rises; try to find the cool place wherever you are.

Bars are usually loud, chatty environments for music because people are drinking alcohol and they expect to talk with friends when they go out to hear music at a bar. If DNB was booked at seated venues once in awhile then fans who want to listen to the music could get a chance to hear the band play in a dedicated music venue, like the Freight and Salvage, or a restaurant space like Rancho Nicasio or the Blue Heron, etc.

But out of the 150 paid there was only a handful of DNB fans 30-50. the other 100+ where NRPS fans. So when i say the scene is growing I'm talking about the DNB Ohana. Which is a completly different animal than NRPS. Don't know if you have had a chance to catch any of the DNB shows recently,But i think the crowd is overall very respectful of the Music, The Band, The Venues and Each other It's not a perfect world,But a different Worl And ain't no place I'd rather Be.

Re noise at the shows. Getting people to quiet down would not be an issue at all if people would keep in mind they are in a public place and not in their living rooms. That, and that we, the general public, do not care that Elfrida P. Somebody wrecked her good jeans by sitting on a nail on the bench outside. Etc. And so sorry that the music played by the band (who most of you talkers PAID to see, by the way) gets in the way of someone's personal conversation. In my opinion, shut up or stay home. I've been known to swat a few people and getting more and more crotchety with old age.

...that is precisely why I have chosen Noone to be my leader. Every since Nobody was assasinated, Noone has been the obvious choice for president. I honestly think that Noone would have won in the last election had not everyone kept saying "Noone could be as bad a president as George Bush." ...but of course I may be a bit biased, after all, Noone likes all my jokes.

Well Mizshelly, there are infact two Bettys worked with the Dead and one of them is male. Are you reffering to Betty Cantor? that would be Board Lady Betty. Bag Lady Bettys real name is David and all Davids hate to be called Dave but it happens. If you want to meet Bag Lady Betty just take a walk down Haight street and ask his where abouts and you will find him in less than a half hour. And I am not at all surprised that you don't know any of this. Noone knows everything.

Bob in Hollywood - are you serious? Betty is very much female... always has been for the 40+ years I have known her ... unless there are two Betty engineers around the Dead and I highly think not ... and anyone who knows David as well as Betty does knows that he HATES to be called DAVE for ANY reason... where do you get this stuff? I'm just askin'

speaking of D. Nelson and young fans, I was recently talking to a guy named "Bag Lady Betty" in S.F.. Well Betty used to be an engineer for the Dead (according to him he's still on lay off, waiting for that call that the big show is going back on the road) and Betty had a great idea for a tee-shirt instead of D.A.R.E. to keep kids off drugs...D.A.V.E. to keep kidz on tour.

I gave Tony a ride from Ukiah heading up to Eureka. I didn't have time to go all the way to Arcada to his motel and he decided the chances of a ride were better if he got out around Confusion Hill- where the old CHP car makes you slow down. I saw him before the show having dinner at Humbrews and then later I saw him walking across the street to the Ace parking lot just before the start of the show. That was the last I saw of him and I still have some of his stuff. I thought he might be here for Jemima Puddleduck but no luck. Anybody know how to get in touch with Tony?

Another fine show at the Mill Valley Dance Hall...but too many obnoxious DNB regulars. I have been a Nelson fan and a dead head for forty years. I see these people who somehow feel that they are part of the show and impose themselves on others trying to enjoy the music. I just think if you can't handle your drugs and or alcohol you must be a beginner, some decorum please. What's up with the constant bumping into people as if it's funny. FYI Maui travelers! Just found a great rate at the Days Inn Maui Oceanfront (where we stayed last year). They're offering 40 percent off if you stay 4 nights or more. I know that Mark finds us some great deals, but this is under $80 a night + tax, which is pretty great for a place on the beach. Cancelable too, in case something better pops up.

Hey! That comlment to Mookie was uncalled for. I still remember the night we tried to get him to go into the 25 cent movie theatre across from the Warfield on the way back from a Ratdog gig = he politely declined stating he had no quarters so the next night, we brought him a roll. He still wouldn't go... A glass of Mookie and a loaf of Wonderbread...

Mia, thanks for the internet tip, as for my artwork, its on the streets where it belongs. Don't worry, I try not to be a public eye sore like the bum i encountered up on the Haight last week. Lots of people trying to take advantage of the cal. supreme court decision that a person is allowed to display there personal art work. So any how, this guy takes a crap on the sidewalk and shapes a little taj mahal out of it. A lady comes up and says "I'd buy that but how do I know you did it", he says "look there my signature", lady says "how do I know that's you". Bum says "smell this fingernail right here". If any one buys that story I got three more just as true, five$ a piece, 2 for 9$

Bob B, is your artwork downtown in a shop or out on the sidewalk? You know, the Central Library Downtown is a lot cheaper place to log-on the Net than Kinko's... 5 dollars instead of 12 dollars an hour, 1 free hour with local Library card.

Aloha Actually the prices didn't change. it was a misprint corrected. and yes we would like to do a donation station at each show. what i need is someone to contact the "local foodbank" let them know what we are doing and if they have any specific needs. they will say great but we need to let them know whats up and need someone to drop off next day for Example "plowshares" in Ukiah asked for Canned veggies pasta sauces and broths as well as Cash. can u imagine if everyone spent just half of their first beer or wine or whatever on something for someone less fortunate.

Ghosts of Electricity was an incredible evening of music for those that couldn't make it to Berkeley. Nice job Mookie and have to say that this was the best evening of music I've seen in a long time since the recent Furthur run. I love Dylan and go see him mostly all the time but your band put a nice respectful interpretation of the music in a good way that brought back memories of Jerry Band and G.D. versions gone by and yet with your own bands personal take on things. It was cool to see Wavy Gravy come on in but a little sad when he announced the passing of Norton Buffalo during Knocking on Heavan's Door. Anyway, 4 12 hours of music and was a great party at the Ashkenaz that I used to go visit in college back in the 80's. Steve

If I knew it was going to sell out and known that I could pay by phone then I would have done it already. It would be ONE BIG ASS BUMMER to not get in when I am driving 4 hrs and reserved a hotel 2 weeks in advance. (

WHAT? Last I heard, of OUR Mr. nelson, he was 66 on June 12... I think they got that from some erroneous info on wikipedia which I corrected about a dozen times... someone linked him in with Ricky's brother (who probably IS 73 today, if I care, I would look it up).

Yeah, PL's no Hemingway, but I didn't say he was a great writer, I said it was a great article. The sentence you mentioned is truly poorly constructed, a stumblingly awkward dismemberment of the English language. I think the article's great because it gives a nice portrait of Banana (and Marin) even with its sometimes painful prose. It's cool to see Banana in the paper, and to read about what he's up to, and to get to hear such a nice clip of his latest music. I love Across the Great Divide and want to hear him play it.

USA - Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 03:32:28 (EDT)
I think Liberatore's article was well intentioned but he is certainly NOT a great writer... I am always floored that the guy remains employed. Read the sentence about Joe Bauer's brain tumor and get back to me, will you? I do believe Mr. Liberatore has his head up his derriere...

FYE, Paul Liberatore wrote a great article on Banana in the IJ (available online at marinij dot com). David Nelson gets a mention, as do some other local heroes. Hopefully the Papermill Creek Rounders will make the rounds once again sometime. In the meantime, enjoy the IJ article's sidebar clip of Banana singing and playing a cut from his new album, 's very nice.

MarkD -- I second that emotion. Would be nice to have a DNB block of rooms at Discovery Inn in Ukiah for the Vineyard show. Also, for those of us heading to Hawaii on a budget (and who isn't), the lack of an "island hopping" date makes it impossible to schedule jump flights & reserve houses or condos well in advance. Call it such a good idea at the time.

Right on, Mizshely- Mrs. Terwilliger was herself "Something special!" She turned thousands of kids on to the wonder and value of Marin's wild places and was a great preservationist and environmental educator. We can all learn and benefit from her example and good works. Hey Joe, this is from the Independent Journal (type "Burdell" into the IJ's search bar for the article from a few days ago)-- 'A public scoping meeting about the Commons at Mount Burdell and its environmental impact report is set for 730 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5 at the Novato Unified School District office, 1015 Seventh St., Novato.'
