The first Hunter/Nelson composition released after Hunter’s passing in 2019. Recorded on the auspicious date of August 9 in 2016, it features deep lyrics told by a character that is perhaps reflecting his own mortality: “I have died for liberty, fought heavy hard and long / I have died in poverty, moving right along / I’m about to blow this joint so listen to my song / I have died to prove a point, moving right along.” The song is a testament to Hunter’s power to pen timeless lyrics that can resonate at any point in time. The music buoys the lyric and the boys stretch out into jam land when the tale is told and done, as they do so well. The song was mixed by Grammy award winning producer/engineer, Ross Hogarth.
Purchase Movin’ Right Along Single
Movin’ Right Along
Loaded my gun and went to war, movin right along
I shot left and I shot right, now listen to my song
I have lost the appetite, movin right along
Movin right along now, movin right along
Right – or – wrong I’m movin right along
I died in a picket line, the union must be strong
I died in a coal mine, movin right along
Layed my life down for a cause, now listen to my song
Fighting for and ‘gainst the laws, movin right along
Movin right along now, movin right along
Right – or – wrong I’m movin right along
I have died for liberty, fought heavy hard and long
I have died in poverty, moving right along
I’m about to blow this joint so listen to my song
I have died to prove a point, moving right along
I have died by God’s command,
My faith was just that strong.
Died protecting contraband, movin right along
Died for reasons high and low, now listen to my song
When it’s time to die I go, moving right along
Mine eyes have seen the glory
And my feet have hit the road
My ears have heard the story
And my back has borne the load
My hand has waved the sabre
My neck has stretched the rope
You profit from my labor
While I feed my kids on hope
I have died in vain at times, sing all the whole night long
For theft of bread and other crimes, movin right along
When the wind blows from the hill just listen to my song
Borne upon the evening chill, movin right along
Another Robert Hunter/ David Nelson composition, this rollicking rocker is from the same recording session that produced ‘Movin’ Right Along’, and was also mixed by Grammy award winning engineer, Ross Hogarth. This tale finds our hero in the middle of the ocean in a teak canoe. So get your french champagne and tin can chowder and swim if you can, float if you don’t…
Man overboard, no, make that two
Nothing to drink but French champagne
And tin can chowder for 2 cents plain
Me and Moth Benning and Dakota Sue
Woke up one morning with nothing to do
We’d done everything’s ever been done
Time to start over beginning at one
Man overboard
Swim if you can
Float if you don’t
Since the world began
Me and Moth Benning and Dakota Sue
She looks like me and I look like you
You look like us when shove comes to push
Upside down, dragged through a bush
Some of my feelings about the past
Depend on the shadows that they still cast
I still can’t read my watch in the dark
But an educated guess ain’t far from the mark
Man overboard
Swim if you can
Float if you don’t
Since the world began
Dakota Sue, Moth Benning and me
Man overboard, no, make that three
From the golden hills of Mandu-Kat
To the pits of Texas in one hour flat
Checking my shoes for chewing gum
Got no flavor but it helps me some
Like all things good picked up on the street
Refined in silence with a strong back-beat
Man overboard
Swim if you can
Float if you don’t
Since the world began
Of all the lessons I ever learned
How to stand in the fire and not get burned
Listen to the one with the least to say
As my father said before he passed away
Middle of the ocean in a teak canoe
Man overboard, no, make that two
Nothing to drink but French champagne
And tin can chowder for 2 cents plain
